Abstract

This article reflects on the ethnic-racial debate in economic thought, focusing on the Neoclassical Economics of Discrimination. The Brazilian labor market is marked by racial inequalities, but the hegemonic Neoclassical Theories of Discrimination attribute this issue to external factors, sustaining an individualistic view of racism. As a result, they treat discrimination as a deviation, ignoring its structural nature (ALMEIDA, 2019). It is argued that any economic analysis of the labor market that disregards structural racism is incomplete. Thus, this article offers reflections on how the dominant economic thought limits the understanding and dissemination of the racial issue with the necessary relevance.
