Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The article is original and previously unpublished, and it is not under review in any other publication
  • The article follows all requirements in Guidelines for authors
  • The article is in accordance with the Ethics Code and Publication Best Practices
  • The authors declare no conflict of interest in the publication

Author Guidelines

Submission norms

1. Economic History & Business History publishes exclusively original studies written on either Portuguese, English, or Spanish.

2. File settings: Microsoft Word or an open-source alternative, A4 paper, margins 2.5 (top and bottom) and 3.0 (left and right), font Times New Roman 12, 1.5 spacing and word limit of 10,000 words, including references, which should be separated from primary sources.

3. Manuscripts should present: title, abstract with limit of 150 words, 3 keywords and JEL code.

4. Economic History & Business History accept articles with, at best, three authors, from which we demand effective participation in the development of the work and an ORCID entry. Once taken the first editorial decision, it is forbidden to include new coauthors.

5. Once approved, we request that the contribution of each author in the development of the work must be informed, according to the following criteria: (1) Conception; (2) Research of data and/or documents; (3) Analysis of data and/or documents; (4) Active participation in the discussion of the results; (5) Writing and revision of the final version.

6. Charts and spreadsheets must be sent separately in a Microsoft Excel file. Figures, prints, illustrations and drawings should also be sent separately, with a minimum resolution of 600 real dpi (not interpolated), in natural size and saved in JPEG format and in RGB colors. Trading cards or slides must have a minimum resolution of 2,500 real dpi (not interpolated). Photographs taken by digital cameras must have a minimum resolution of 3 megapixels without compression (high definition module). All cited elements must be numbered, accompanied by a legend and source indication.

Citations and references
1. Citations must have author, year and page, following the norm NBR-10520 from ABNT.

2. Notes should be restricted to minimal indispensable, inserted as footnotes.

3. The references, restricted to only the effectively cited in the body of the work, should be presented at the end of the text, in alphabetical order and conforming to the norm NBR-6023 of ABNT. If there is more than one reference/publication of the same author, it should be presented in the order of publication date, from the oldest to the most recent. The surname and name of the author should be repeated, being forbidden the use of the “string” (________).
