This review analyzes the edited volume Capitalisms: Towards a Global History, organized by Kaveh Yazdani and Dilip M. Menon and published by Oxford University Press in 2020. The work brings together contributions from scholars from different countries with the aim of challenging Eurocentric narratives about the origins and expansion of capitalism, proposing instead a plural and comparative approach that incorporates economic trajectories from China, India, Japan, Russia, Southeast Asia, and the slave-based Atlantic world. The review presents the main arguments of the collection’s two thematic sections—major debates and case studies—with particular emphasis on the chapters devoted to the relationship between slavery and capitalism and to the plurality of capitalist forms in a global historical perspective.
